2026 ACEC-NH & NHDOT Technical Exchange Conference has ended
Thursday April 16, 2026 11:15am - 12:15pm EDT
Session 8A: RIDOT I-95 15 Design Build, RIDOT’s largest ever project
Speakers: Jeff Klein, VHB; Steve DelGrosso, Skanska Civil USA
-The $625 million I-95 15 design-build project, RIDOT’s largest, addresses 15 deteriorating bridges along I-95 and Route 10 between Providence and Warwick—a vital route for 185,000 vehicles daily. By combining multiple sites, the project improves safety, reliability, and reduces maintenance costs while minimizing disruptions. Led by Skanska/McCourt/Aetna Bridge JV and designer VHB, the team implemented innovative construction approaches and Alternative Technical Concepts to accelerate work, enhance safety, and limit traffic and stakeholder impacts. The project’s collaborative management and solutions will be highlighted in the presentation.

Session 8B: D5 Bridge Bundle - MassDOT First Low-Bid Design Build
Speaker: Michael Sullivan, CHA; Marco Pereira, NHDOT
-In the Fall of 2022, MassDOT initiated a pilot low-bid design-build project to rehabilitate 8 bridges located throughout southeastern Massachusetts. The goal of the project was to bundle similar bridge repairs into a single project, and utilize low-bid design-build as an avenue to quickly appropriate funds. Repairs at each bridge include full deck replacements, substructure repairs, steel superstructure repairs, and roadway and utility upgrades. Through the Spring of 2026, the project is approximately halfway through construction and is anticipated to wrap up in 2027.
