About me
Brian Schagen is a PhD candidate in structural engineering at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, soon to graduate, and a visiting researcher at MIT. His research focuses on cold-spray additive manufacturing (CSAM) for the repair and rehabilitation of aging civil infrastructure, with an emphasis on additively restoring corroded steel bridge components. His work investigates process strategies, mechanical performance, and field deployment of CSAM as a low-heat alternative to conventional repair methods. Brian holds a Master of Science degree from Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) and has presented his research at major technical venues, including the Transportation Research Board Annual Meeting, National Bridge Preservation Conference, and Engineering Mechanics Institute Conference. His work bridges materials science, additive manufacturing, and structural engineering to advance resilient infrastructure solutions.
