Session 7A: SADES Retaining Wall Database Means & Methods

-This presentation is a quick overview of the means, methods, and next steps involved with the creation of the NHDOT Statewide Asset Data Exchange System (SADES) database for retaining walls.  This active project spans from late 2024 to present and has undergone several iterations involving a broad cadre of NHDOT personnel and summer interns.  The ultimate goal is to have a public facing dashboard along with an internal database in order to create routine inspection and maintenance schedules, along with mitigation of both risk and cost associated with the broad range of retaining walls within the state.

Session 7B: Foamed Glass Aggregate - Design & Construction of an Off-Alignment Bridge, MSE Walls, & Embankment in Colchester, VT

-The bridge at I-89 Exit 17 in Colchester, VT was recently replaced with an off-alignment, two-span, pile-supported integral abutment bridge with tall embankments at widened approaches and MSE walls at the abutments. The presentation will discuss the design and use of ultra-lightweight foamed glass aggregate (FGA) for the western abutment MSE walls and steep eastern approach embankment underlain by soft glaciolacustrine clays. The focus will be on design to mitigate bearing and global stability issues, meet minimum factors of safety, and maximize use of conventional fills to minimize cost, including value engineering design to accommodate FGA from two manufacturers.
