Session 13A: Cold Spray Proof of Concept Structural Bridge Repair

-This presentation explores the application of cold-spray additive manufacturing (CSAM) for structural steel repair and infrastructure rehabilitation. The presentation will discuss how cold-spray technology enables the deposition of metal powders at supersonic velocities without melting, creating strong metallurgical bonds while avoiding heat-affected damage. Through laboratory research and real-world bridge repair demonstrations performed with MassDOT, the session highlights the feasibility of restoring corroded steel beam ends and extending service life. Attendees will gain an understanding of CSAM fundamentals, material performance, field implementation challenges, and the potential of this emerging technology to transform infrastructure maintenance and repair practices.

Session 13B: Asphalt Rejuvenators &Slurry Seals: Expanding the Pavement Preservation Toolbox

This session presents practical case studies demonstrating the application of asphalt rejuvenators and polymer-modified slurry seals as alternatives to traditional seal coats and overlays. The discussion focuses on treatment selection criteria—including pavement condition, traffic loading, and operational constraints—and highlights lessons learned from field implementation. Attendees will gain insight into performance expectations, curing considerations, and cost-effectiveness comparisons. By applying a data-driven preservation framework, agencies can optimize life-cycle costs, improve network-level condition, and defer major rehabilitation investments through proactive maintenance planning.
